The Mickey Mouse that Roared

The Hulk has been brought to his knees
The culprit's not gamma disease
Three fingers, a thumb
have struck comics dumb
The Mouse has a new piece of cheese

Disney is buying Marvel. Story here

Tortured Pose

Dick Cheney is back in the news
objecting to torture reviews
He's gone on attack
'cause he's on the rack
and Justice is tightening screws

Former Vice President and defender of waterboarding Dick Cheney
is back at it, calling the Justice Department's new investigation into
whether CIA interrogators broke the law "an outrageous political act."
"It's clearly a political move," Cheney said. "There's no other rationale
for why they're doing this." Of course, there couldn't be anything
political about Cheney's enhanced protest techniques. (Reuters photo)

Brain Stain

A maniac wasn't enough
now monster that likes to play rough
No more bloody brains
or curdled refrains!
I've had quite enough of the stuff

Brain Week at Limerwrecks is officially declared brain dead.

Heads and Tales

A noggin's revived from the dead
to use as a transplanted head

It won't take a shamus
to note Nostradamus
predicted the plot's latest thread

The head of Nostradamus is stolen from its grave
and brought back to life in The Man Without a Body
(Charles Saunders, 1957). As a guy with a brain tumor
who's losing his mind, George Coulouris is a long way
from the lofty heights of Citizen Kane.

Head Cheesy

The aliens, covered in slime
would conquer one brain at a time
They'd take Illinois
then the world they'd destroy...
Too bad that the script was a crime

The Brain Eaters (Bruno VeSota, 1958) is a science
fiction-horror film about alien parasites seeking to control
the population of a small town in Illinois. Gordon Urqhart's
script was based on Robert Heinlein's novel The Puppet
Masters. Heinlein sued producer Roger Corman, who
settled out of court.

Donovan's Brain, Drained

Donovan's Brain
(Felix Feist, 1953). Pics courtesy of Judex fanzine

In thrall to a brain in a jar
a scientist's acting bizarre
The thought-controlled wimp
now walks with a limp,
eats steak and smokes pricey cigars

Surly

O, what's inside Donovan's brain
besides a nice lilting refrain?
He's mellow and gentle
and sounds transcendental,
his lyrics are hard to explain

Brain Panned

Doc's girlfriend is killed in a crash
her head's sped to lab in a flash
His search for new body
a good one--not shoddy
makes this a most fun piece of trash

The Brain That Wouldn't Die (Joseph Green, 1959/62) took all
of three years to be released. I doubt they were fixing the script.

Better Off Ted

The passing of Edward M. Kennedy
gives pause for a bit of solemnity
This prominent clan
has lost it's last man
They seem to've been here an eternity

A Rose is a Rose is Arous

An alien brain they called Gor
Craved power but lusted for more
Possessing a man
He altered his plan
So earth girls his mind could explore.

The Brain From Planet Arous (Nathan Juran, 1957). Update (11/26/11): Just saw a chunk of this for the first time. That title would've been be clever if Arous wasn't pronounced "heiress". Oh well.

Fiend Screened

When thoughts from a scientist's mind
and power from atoms combined
a fiend was released
which wanted to feast...
On brains and spine columns it dined

Fiend Without A Face (Arthur Crabtree, 1958) depicts the
age-old story of a scientist's thoughts, enhanced by Cold War
atomic-powered radar experiments, coalescing into invisible
marauders that kill character actors by boring holes in their
skulls and extracting their brains and spinal cords.

The Brain Event

A millionaire dies but his brain
Is chilled, and survives without strain
And its cranium wave
Makes a doctor its slave
To fulfill its postmortem campaign.

Next to Frankenstein, The Lady and the Monster (George Sherman, 1944) is the daddy of all Evil Brain flicks. Though rather tepid stuff, it was the first film version of Curt Siodmak's classic criminal-brain novel, Donovan's Brain. The film starred Richard Arlen, Vera Hruba Ralston and Erich von Stroheim.

I know what you're thinking...It's Brain Week at Limerwrecks.

Cutting Bored

In scene that seems pure Halloween
a guy leans on a warm guillotine
He's just cut off a head
but he cares not a shred
The procedure is strictly routine

Wince by a Head

The guillotine's starting to drop
Look out when it comes to a stop
Offered cake, needing bread
things come to a head
The French take some off of the top

Happy Birthday, Gene Ha!

You've forty lit candles to blow
You smile, and your face is aglow
Underlit, you're a fright
from low candle light
Let's hope the next forty go slow

Bubble Trouble

When she calls me up, it's a pain!
and what she says to me's in vain
She just shouldn't ought'r
Cuz she's under water
I can't understand what she's sayin'!

Norm

She talks way too much when she phones
On shopping and boys always drones
But here's the real shocker
she calls from the locker
belonging to one Davey Jones

Waikiki Weakened

A fish playing hooky from school, a
gal dancing to uke does the hula
How do they hold poses
without holding noses?
They're pros, and they do it for moolah!

Norm

When Hans pulled his finger from dyke
'cross farmland swam walleye and pike
And undersea lasses
sashayed in the grasses
as wet ukulele played Ike

Mow, Mow, Mow Your Boat

Well watered, lawns rapidly grow
increasing the need for a mow
Cutting grass when it's wet
will work up a sweat
so gardeners go with the flow

Watering Hole In One

When golfing a hazard means trouble
A bogey, or even a double
Hit trap in a lake?
Your par you won't make
I'm sorry for bursting your bubble

Fish Or Cute Bait

A fisherman needs to use bait
of just the right size and right weight
But what kind of schnook
would put on his hook
his girlfriend while out on a date?

Rout of Time

Time flies and you're not having fun
It's over before
you've begun
It's not on your side
you run but can't hide
It's up and your time here is done

Cadaver Palaver

They're always the last place you look
They'll hide them in any old nook
When stashing a stiff
one works in a jiff
Just ask any corpse-bearing crook

Nude Orleans

For beads she had tossed off her bra
It happened just last Mardis Gras
And in the French Quarter
he doffed his supporter
Half nude they committed faux pas

Speed Thrills

We all have a passion for speed
The limit we love to exceed
We miss the sublime
not taking our time
and hastily doing the deed

The Beatnik Goes On

The pads of the beatniks grow hazy
from cigarette smoke, man, like crazy

Just steps below street

on bongos they beat

The cats would walk up but they're lazy

Bad As It Gets

She tried to be good but she failed
Her virtue's a ship that has sailed

On corners she stood

and that's never good
A taxi she should've just hailed

Franks Discussion

Doc Freud preferred Viennese franks
But beef, or of pork pulled from shanks?
What's certain is dogs

made Freud dream of logs
