I DON'T See England...

In Wyndham's botanic dystopia
We're thinned out by manic myopia
In a country that's blind
We confront the unkind
Thus hindered, in panic, we grop-ia.

David Cairns

Much of the Earth's population is blinded by a meteorite in The Day of the Triffids (Steve Sekely; 1963), loosely based on the 1951 novel of the same name by John Wyndham.
