After horror comic books became the target of Senate hearings on juvenile deliquency and the publication of psychiatrist Fredric Wertham's book Seduction of the Innocent, the comic book industry created the self-imposed Comics Code Authority, which censored and proscribed the content of comic books. Code-approved comics carried the CCA seal on their cover.
